Hydro Car 400kg SSU

Overview

The Hydro Car 400kg SSU is a Hydrocar Split Shaft Unit, rated to 400 daNm maximum through-torque, from the same Interpump Hydraulics range ASN Hydro Systems supplies for vehicle-mounted equipment. Unlike a standard gearbox-mounted PTO, a split shaft unit is installed directly in the vehicle’s propeller shaft line, between the gearbox and the rear axle, splitting the driveline itself to divert power to auxiliary equipment.

Because it sits in the shaft line rather than on the gearbox, an SSU lets the vehicle stay fully driveable while auxiliary equipment runs, on the move or stationary, which is why it is the standard choice for sewer jetting trucks, tankers and other vehicles that pump while driving.

How a split shaft unit works

Installed in-line in the propeller shaft, the SSU splits engine power without interrupting drivetrain continuity to the rear axle. An auxiliary power take-off output on the unit, engaged pneumatically or mechanically from the cab, drives the mounted pump or hydraulic system at a torque and speed matched to the job.

The 400 daNm unit accepts a range of auxiliary PTO outputs, from 200 Nm up to the full 400 Nm rating, each with its own gear ratio, so the take-off can be matched to the exact torque and speed the mounted pump requires.

Where it earns its keep

Built for the duty

Rated to 400 daNm maximum through-torque, the unit runs on SAE 80W90 gearbox oil, with a nominal capacity of 0.6 litres with one auxiliary PTO fitted or 0.9 litres with two. Standard horizontal fitting uses a bracket kit with silent block mounts to isolate vibration from the chassis; vertical fitting is also available on request. Propshafts either side must be correctly phased, balanced and kept parallel to the SSU and gearbox axes, in line with the vehicle manufacturer’s driveline specification.
