Hydrocar PTO

Overview

Hydrocar is the vehicle Power Take-Off and Split Shaft Unit brand of Interpump Hydraulics S.p.A., and ASN Hydro Systems supplies and fits Hydrocar PTO gearboxes for trucks and other commercial vehicles that need to power equipment directly from their own engine. Mounted on the vehicle gearbox, the PTO takes rotational drive from the transmission and delivers it, via a cardan shaft, to a pump or other auxiliary unit mounted on the chassis.

This removes the need for a separate onboard engine to run mounted equipment. The vehicle’s own engine does the work, engaged only when the auxiliary equipment is needed, so the truck stays lighter, simpler to maintain, and cheaper to run.

How it works

The PTO gearbox engages mechanically with the vehicle transmission, either from the gearbox side cover or in-line with the driveline depending on the mounting position. Once engaged, it extracts rotational power at a ratio matched to the auxiliary equipment’s requirement and delivers it through an output shaft, typically to a high pressure pump or hydraulic unit mounted on the truck.

Engagement is controlled from the cab, mechanically or pneumatically, so the driver brings the auxiliary system online only when it is needed and disengages it the moment the vehicle needs to move under normal drive.
